So yesterday in a fit of pique I created a nublog on blogger. geekwitch.blogspot.com.

I'm trying to figure out if I can make it private, if I can port it to here, and whatever.

But, just so you know, the disruptive advertising on LJ at this point (a port of a Best Buys TV commercial in an interstitial, pop over, can't be closed immediately format) is why I have moved on with this.

Plus my droid and google get along well, and my web site and the blog may work together, and since google is in take over the world mode, I figure I may as well join in.

Tech assistance is solicited.

When you started with the ads, I understood. I paid for an account when I could, and did not when I couldn't Hell I even paid for others' accounts as gifts.

Now - you are seriously pissing me off.

These intrusive "interstitial" ads you are displaying - which by the way make LJ completely useless on my mobile phone - are disruptive and grate my every nerve. The fact that I have to wait several 15!) seconds before I can close the pop up ad, and am forced to begin to watch a television commercial before viewing my friends page is insulting.

I give you until January. Perhaps now you are making money you need desperately, I'll give you that much. January - it's your cut off.

(*proceeds to download the GeekWithh LJ in order to preserve it when I ultimately have to leave because of these horrible ads.*)

utterly pointless

I am wearing duck down Ikea brand "socks" (slippers) that are like sleeping bags for my feet.

They are ugly as sin.

But they feel divine.

My former foster Snowie will be at the Mutt Strut! I haven't seen her since her adoption -over a year ago! I hope she remembers me.

They're even on our team!

In the meantime, give a little bit if you can, $5 is plenty.

AND - LWD Stoli-o will be a Calendar Girl in the 2010 PAWS calendar.

It's a wonderful day for Deaf White Dogs, big and small!

My email and their response. Which IMO says nothing of substance.

Subject: HSUS are traitors

Sorry guys, you lost me.

I can't believe you are in bed with a murderer.

All financial and volunteer contributions will be going to other humane services n my area, certainly not the one that is aligned with Michael Vick.

Thank you for sharing your views on Michael Vick. It remains our hope that Vick will be successful in reaching at-risk youth with a message against dogfighting. We say that for the sake of countless thousands of dogs who otherwise are and will be forced into a life of intense suffering and premature death.

Vick has pledged a long-term commitment to working with these boys and young men, and The Humane Society of the United States has agreed to allow him to speak to individuals engaged in our End Dogfighting campaign.  We have not endorsed Vick, he is not a spokesperson for HSUS, and we did not advocate his return to the NFL or his signing with the Eagles.  Rather, just as he paid a million dollars for the care and rehabilitation of the dogs he abused, we believe he should continue to pay with his time – as a form of community service which many ex-convicts engage in – to help others understand the real cruelty and consequences behind dogfighting.

We continue to battle the scourge of dogfighting on many fronts. If you disagree with us on Vick, we sincerely hope that you will support other elements of our program – including a national tip line to report suspected dogfighting in your neighborhood, and a close collaboration with law enforcement authorities to bring the curtain down on organized fighting networks.  The dogs who are trapped in the misery of this dead-end business deserve every effort we can give them. HSUS is the only national animal protection group which has a dedicated unit working to stop dogfighting and cockfighting – we have crafted the nation’s laws on this issue, trained law enforcement personnel, conducted investigations, and changed the national landscape on these issues.

Whether Michael Vick is sincere or not, we believe his actions can help us stop dogfighting – and that’s our goal. When he spoke to at-risk youth in Atlanta and Chicaco, the kids were on the edges of their seats. Many of the young men we spoke with said they have seen dogfights in their neighborhood, and when they walk down the street with their pit bulls, other people challenge them to fight their dogs. After hearing Michael Vick’s story, they say they are now going to be advocates against dogfighting, and are going to spread the word to their friends.

That’s the type of grassroots community-based outreach program we need. If Michael Vick reaches one young man and steers him away from dogfighting – or thousands of young men – then it’s a 100 percent victory for the dogs that would have ended up in the dogfighting ring.  We all know the cruelty that is inherent in this “sport.”  The HSUS is on the front lines working to end dogfighting forever.  We encourage anyone who shares our resolve to stand with us.  And, should they later fall back on their words, we pledge to campaign against them.  The HSUS is committed to long-term change.  The dogs deserve it.

We encourage you to look at our website to see images of young men and their dogs who have turned away from the culture of dogfighting. We are gaining on this dark underworld, and we won’t rest until it is ended.  You, too, can help us in this campaign.

Sincerely,

Wayne Pacelle

Summer Insomnia - as we grow closer to the Autumn Equinox (9/22 this year), I find myself waking earlier,  going to bed later,  or waking up in the middle of the night, unable to get back to sleep. I've found, aside from taking an OTC sleeping pill, there are few ways to force going back to Nod's embrace. If you can, try reading a book, taking a footbath (instead of a long full bath) or moving to another location in your home. Don't stress over falling asleep in a location other than your bed!

The autumn equinox can bring about a change from you summery light mindset to a darker perspective. You may find yourself having more troubling dreams as the turn from summer's light towards winter's dark is made. If you think about it, both Spring and Fall are transitory times - it is only natural that your thoughts and psyche show the same trend. Spring - full of anticipation, lightheartedness and dreams of the future (June brides, anyone?) and Fall - the end of the growing season, time for reaping and the coming of the dark, cold days of winter. You may  find yourself reaping a personal harvest as well - what have you achieved? What are your plans for the future?  - thoughts that would make anyone stay up at night!

Embrace it. Use this time and energy instead of fighting it. Take your personal inventory, reap the rewards you have earned, and think deeply about your intents and purpose on this earth.

Enjoy! An equinox only comes twice a year!

Still testing - is anyone here also on the twitterverse and having problems connecting?

Some kind of vista update and a java update (both valid, not virii) and all of a sudden I can't update on Faceboook or even open twitter.

Bet my boss installed a firewall.

ha ha ha.

Am I right?

Happy Birthday little one! You share this day with my little sister - and Auspicious Date if ever there was one.

I had a whole weekend update created in my head. Like a real post, a real recap of things, not necessarily dogs, like REAL things.

And now I can't think of any of it except these.

OK, first. Yesterday a line of thunderstorms passed through the area, western parts had tornado(s?), but it was a line of eeevil passing over, like the langoliers, but not really. It just looked that way.

These were takes 3 minutes before pounding deafening rain and hellacious hail fell for about 8 minutes, then tapered off into nothing after 15 minutes. (yes, I was at work...)

Looking South

and looking North

And looking UP

It was really frickin cool. I love some dramatic stormage.
